Infection Management Workstream

Within hospitals care bundles or care pathways will be introduced in collaboration with other key stakeholders to improve the process of clinical practice in high burden diseases such as community acquired pneumonia, C. difficile management and surgical antibiotic prophylaxis. In primary care prescribing indicators will be developed to evaluate antimicrobial prescribing. The emerging issue of inappropriate prescribing of antibiotics in nursing homes or long term care facility patients will be addressed. Developing prescribing and resistance information related to this would be an important first step in identifying the burden of this problem in Scotland.
