Role of Patient and Public Involvement Group
PAPIG, the Public and Patient Involvement Group, is a subgroup of SMC. Membership is comprised of no less than 6 members of SMC, 3 of whom must be public partners. Public partners are appointed from the general public. PAPIG meets bimonthly, normally immediately before an SMC meeting. A public partner acts as Chair.
PAPIG’s Role:
to make recommendations to SMC on the development of public involvement opportunities;
to monitor and report back to SMC on the effectiveness of public involvement opportunities where this information is available;
to ensure that a patient/carer perspective is prominent in all SMC assessments;
to present a summary of the Patient Interest Group submissions, where these have been submitted, to SMC meetings;
to promote public awareness of, and involvement in, the work of SMC.
History of Public Involvement in SMC
