Public Partner Recruitment – May 2012
SMC have a vacancy for a new Public Partner to join the Patient and Public Involvement Group (PAPIG).
Public Partners have an active role in promoting and developing public awareness of SMC through PAPIG. In addition, they present information from patient interest groups at the monthly meetings of SMC and have the opportunity to contribute an objective lay perspective for each new medicine that SMC assesses and advises on. Further information on the skills and knowledge required to undertake this role are highlighted in the application pack.

The SMC is holding a series of free workshops across Scotland to help inform patient groups about the factors considered by the SMC in its decision-making process and clarify the kind of information which is most useful to be included in the SMC patient group submissions. New Product Assessment Form - Guidance For Manufacturers
SMC have issued an updated Guidance to Manufacturers document for completion of the New Product Assessment Form. This new guidance must be adhered to by the 6th August 2012 deadline. A list of key changes or clarifications is noted below:

Forthcoming Submission Alert
In June 2011 a forthcoming submission alert facility was added to the website. All subscribers to the SMC website will be sent a monthly alert detailing the forthcoming submissions that have been added to the SMC work programme. Information in relation to the drug name, drug indication, the date SMC advice is due to be published and the deadline date for Patient Interest Group Submissions is provided.

Guidance on Submission Criteria
UK PharmaScan
SMC is supporting and fully engaged with the recent launch of the UK wide horizon scanning database, UK PharmaScan. Our procedure for pipeline updates is being changed to fully utilise UK PharmaScan. We would encourage all companies to register for this important advance in the provision of horizon scanning information to ensure that your products are included in our Forward Look reports and therefore factored into future financial and service planning cycles within NHS Scotland.
